Great local Florida experience. The "wine" is made from local flavors and will challenge your idea of how wine is supposed to taste. Extremely friendly service. Lots of wines to choose from at the free tasting. You also get to sample quite a few for a free tasting. The tour is about 20 minutes and fun. Only downside is the wines are on the pricier side (that is, if you're used to buying wine at your local grocery store) averaging $20+ per bottle. However, these wines are so unique that it's hard to pass up buying a few bottles while you're there. Overall a great experience that I recommend. You won't be disappointed.

i absolutely love this place. The owners are the sweetest, most genuine people. They will happily talk to you about their wines, while you taste. They have tours of the facility, and do special events as well. We always make it to the tasting events. This is not a place for super wine snobs. They are "novelty" wines but they are FANTASTICALLY DELICIOUS! You can never go wrong with Key Lime wine made into slushies while walking down the beach. Their Hurricane 5 White Sangria is superb.

I lived in St. Pete for seven years, and when I go back, this is one of the first two places I go (the other being Habana Cafe in Gulfport). The tours are fun, and the tastings are eye-opening. I love the Sparkling Mango, the Hurricane Class 5, and the Millennium Gold.

Twenty dollar fruit flavored wine? Yes Please! Cool little gift shop inside also for those wine lovers. Friendly staff, good assortment of wine to choose from. Chocolate covered orange wine? That's right! When you first sip it it taste like chocolate then the after taste you get is orange flavor! Or was it the other way around? Either way!!!! Yeah, cool stuff like that!

It has been years since I've been here! Since that time my palate has evolved to not like these sweet fruit wines. Even some of the "dry" ones were too sweet for my palate. Like one of their best sellers the Hurricane 5...too sweet for me now! I did leave with one bottle of sparkling grapefruit wine. I have not opened it yet; it has been about a month! In addition to the sundry collection of fruit wines there are some other gift items to purchase. I wish I had bought some orange blossom honey! Five stars for offering a non-traditional wine experience!

If you're visiting near St Pete beach this is a must-do shop to visit because if you want to try something truly local and buy an actual souvenir that someone will appreciate this place the largest selection of locally made wine from produce made in Florida. Instead of a tshirt buy a blackberry wine made in Florida! This shop has tons of fruit wines but it is a great place to pick up souvenirs because it also carries local honey & local preserves. If you get rained out of your beach day, taking the "tour" and wine-tasting can be a fun indoor alternative for adults. As others have said, you watch a video, learn how the wine is made and explore the shop. Kids won't appreciate it as much because there is no vineyard or outdoor exploring to do while the adults drink. It will only take less than an hour so it can easily fit into your vacation plans. People here could not be nicer. If you want to be left alone and browse, there is no pressure pitch. Find a bottle you may want to buy but are afraid you won't like it? No problem- they have a sample and all you have to do is ask so you know you are going to love what you buy with no guess work.

My boyfriend loves sweet wines. To be more exact, my boyfriend loves Welch's grape juice. When I came across a New York Times travel article highlighting the tropical fruit based wines at Florida Orange Groves Winery I knew we had to add it to the itinerary for our mini St. Pete visit. You have to give this business credit for mixing it up - they carry over 45 wines! Yes, 45. Ranging in ingredients from tomato and carrot wines to wines that taste more like a pina colada than a glass of vino (which I'm not totally opposed to). I would have to say my favorite was the key lime pie wine. Bottles run around $20 up to $45 for the port varieties (raspberry chocolate and another that is escaping me at moment) During our free tasting, we tried 11 types of wines including 4 of the wine slushies. Slower tasting process- tried 11 types - carry 45 wines

Holy crap - this place is amazing (and this coming from a guy who already been to Sonoma and Napa). Yes, the wine is all on the sweeter side, but they have their own impeccable unique fruit flavor. This places also mixes it up with all sorts of different fruity based wines (or honey based). Oh and they also have exciting Florida delights. Oh and who else have fruity wines in juice boxes-bags. This is ingenius! My favorite is that they have wine tastings and not just any small wine tasting, but 8 different tastings... FOR FREE... Oh and they will ship for you...

It was fun. Worth the stop. Tour was interesting and I enjoyed tasting the wines. Glad we stopped.

Extremely friendly staff that hosts tours/wine tastings for a local winery. While I am not the biggest wine expert and think some of the wines are a bit too sweet for me, this place offers a variety of options and make every effort to please all tastes. The gift shop offers a variety of Florida themed souvenirs/gifts along with all the wines available. This place is definitely worth visiting and place I'll be going for gifts come holiday season.

I found a groupon for the wine tour and tasting for $25 and it was well worth it. It was for two people so I took my mom who was visiting from out of town. It was a lot of fun we got to try several of the wines and took a tour of the facility. It was the perfect thing to do on a rainy Sunday afternoon. My mom truly enjoyed it and the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. They also have a great gift shop and have everything you could ever want for wine. I would recommend this place as a first date it would be fun and a different thing to do. One thing I wish they did have was stools at the bar, you had to stand the whole which I was fine but it would have be nice to be able to sit. I also wish the tour and tasting took a little long, I would say it only took 45 minutes total with everything. The bottles were also on the expensive side the cheapest one was about $18 which is a little pricey for me and for a bottle of wine. Overall it was a good experience and I would go again. What a great little spot in Pinellas County that is family owened and operated!

I've been driving past this place for years... Back in the day you could even buy fruit here. Now fruit wine is being touted. I've really never had a desire to indulge in fruit wine, but at Thuy's request I acquiesced. Bare in mind I have always thought of "fruit wine" as "fruit flavored wine" or "fruit infused wine", but boy was I mistaken when it came to the Florida Orange Groves & Winery products. The very first thing we learned is that every wine is from fermented fruit. It's not flavored wine, it's fruit wine. Something like 30 different fruits are fermented (some, but not all, at this location). There are also blends, resulting in some 40 flavors or so. There are also ports and champagnes (yes, they use that word). There are four basic parts to a visit here: 1) Watch a DVD about the history and the wine making process, 2) Take a tour of the factory area (no picture taking during the tour), 3) Hit the tasting bar, 4) Browse the shop (and probably buy a bottle or two). The DVD, about 15 minutes long, is interesting. It claims that this is the only citrus winery in the world. Sounds hard to believe, but a cursory google search did not contradict this. The winery tour is also about 15 minutes long and takes you through the various rooms used for fermenting, bottling and storing. The tour also introduces a new packaging, and that's the "wine pouch." Wine packaged in a single-serving, easily transportable, pouches. Think Capri Sun for adults. Now comes the tasting bar. You are obliged to try "the most popular wine", which is the Hurricane Class 5 White Sangria. After that you are free to choose four more wines to try. If you are there with a friend, you don't both have to try the same flavors, so you can increase your sampling. You can also, for $5, purchase 5 more samples. We actually did this, as there were just a few more flavors we had to try. After you are done with the wine, you are then given samples of the wine smoothies, which are a 50/50 mix of wine and smoothie mix (non-alcoholic sweetened fruit syrup). Lastly, it was time to browse the shop. In addition to the wines and smoothies mixes, there are also jams, jellies and other quintessential Florida confections. There is also a large selection of gift items, most, if not all, wine themed (glasses, bottle holders, stoppers, aprons, etc.). In regards to the tasting, some of the wines we really liked, and some were just m'eh. Nothing was horrible, though most are heavy on the sweet side (there are a few semi-sweeet and dry options). The wines that stood out on our list were the Coco Polada (orange, pineapple and coconut wine), Florida Banana (think boozy banana flavored Runt candy), and the Orange Blossom Honey (very similar to a mead). Worth an honorable mention for their uniqueness, were the sparkling wines, the ports and the "Hot Sun" wine, made from tomatoes and a hint of peppers. I could see this as a less boozy Bloody Mary substitute. The ports, though very young (they are fermented with oak chips to give them that woodiness), were interesting. FOGW has won over 244 medals for their wine. While some may cringe at calling this wine, some of the flavors are quite tasty and I'm sure most people are tempted to bring at least one bottle home. Which brings me to my last point. The only reason I'm not going with a 5 star rating is the prices. The typical bottle of wine is about $20. Smoothie mix is $10. When I think of what that same $20 will get you in a legitimate red wine, well that's when I just don't get the price point. A bottle of their very young port will set you back as as much as a 15 year old Tawney (and it's not nearly as good). This aspect aside, we still bought two bottles of wine (banana and the orange blossom honey) and a smoothie mix (also banana). It was novel enough to make it fun. We're saving them for the hot Texas summer. Lastly, our host Celeste did a great job with the tour and our tastings. She was a very fun person to work with.

I am not a wine guy, so coming here was an afternoon date with the wife...something I thought she might appreciate. Well, when we got here, we were told it might be a few minutes. The tours start every half-hour. We mingled through the shop for a few and then sat down to watch the video (which was made only a few years ago, not the 90s as another poster would have you believe). The video is very informative and the production quality is decent considering it's coming from a small company. (Speaking of small companies, I visited this place on Small Business Saturday and I bought a bunch of stuff, so that's cool.) Once the video is done, you get a guided tour of the giant metal brewing l

Great local winery! Free tours and tasting. I love the mango wine and the Hurricane. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. This is a great place to stop when your in the area or heading out to the beaches!

Amazing place and delicious wine! The Groupon brought me in, the tour was fun and the tasting was great. I loved every wine I tried, with of course the famous Hurricane Class 5 as my favorite. I was so pleased with this winery, when I got home I signed up for their email newsletter. A month or so later, I received an email for their tasting with Tijuana Flats catering - and I was very excited! Called ahead to make sure there would be vegetarian options and was assured there would be. Turned out I was only able to have a couple small slices of quesadillas. I was a bit disappointed in what we received for the high price we paid. I might wait for another Groupon again but I will definitely be back!

So I came here in a groupon and I must say that while I definitely enjoyed the wine and the swag that came with it, the "tour" is somewhat lacking. A video, which was produced sometime in the 90s, serves as your introduction to the winery. Which is then followed by brief walk thru of their actual wine making portion of the facility. Our tour guide was rather drool and seemed to not want to be there today, so I'm sure it could have been a different experience with a more lovely person. Now for the wine, it is definitely a delicious thing to behold. My personal favorite was the strawberry. And the wine pouches are a great addition to the beach bag armory. I would do the package if you get the groupon, but not worth $100 alone.

This place is a dream come true for non-poseur folks who just love delicious wine. I like a complex, intense wine now and then - but after having the mango, coffee and berry wines from this place - it's tough to go back to old-school wines. These "trick" wines are probably looked upon with disdain by aficionados, but who really cares? The bottles are expensive compared to "fruitier" wines you'll buy in the store, like a pink Moscato or such, running around 15-20+ per bottle. Also love the new "wine pouch" technology they offer. VERY handy for multiple applications Bottom line: DELICIOUS

If you love wine, sign up for a tour of this place right away! They have delicious wines and a wide variety of other wine-related or Florida themed kitchen/home staples and gifts. My personal favorite thing is the slushy bar, where you can combine two of the greatest things - wine in a slushy! Also they have the innovative wine pouch, which looks like a Capri Sun and allows you to drink your wine at the beach or pool without a glass. I have brought every friend who's visited me to this place and made so many gifts out of wine bottles for the wine lovers in my life.

The winery is really quite adorable. The staff is knowledgeable. The tour is educational. The gift shop is full of treats. The downside is I'm not a big fan of sweet wine, so I've hated everything I've tried except their semi dry blackberry. But I keep going back and tasting new ones in hopes of finding "the one."

Worth stopping in. We made the pilgrimage over from the other coast for no other reason than to purchase their Key Limen wine. We were provided with a free tour that included samples along the way. Their tasting area was top shelf, plenty more samples as well as nice conversation. Two unique things that they sell "Wine Smoothies" and "Wine Pouches" think Capri-Sun for adults. The wine isn't cheap but it's unique as well as tasty. Look for a Groupon and you could leave with an armload of stuff for $50.00.

First off, take the tour. If you're lucky enough to get a tiny old lady as your docent, that's the owner and she's a hoot! When asked what they did with the wine sediment, she replied "take it home and make it into jam!!" Where can I get that jam?!? After the (short but informative) tour, do a tasting. Taste the mango sparkling wine. And the orange&coffee. And the watermelon. And the smoothies! Seriously... It's like my 17-year old self invented a way to drink alcohol that doesnt taste like crap. Amazing. We left with an entire case of wine.... Well, it's getting shipped home, and one bottle to drink before we fly home. Shipping is steep but buy a case an you'll save 7%. Staff is super friendly and chatty, and when it was obvious we were going to buy a crap ton o' wine they let us sample whatever we wanted. The berry wines are tart and the citrus are sweet and the whole experience was very fun and I wish we had more time to spend there, but as it WAS I left totally tipsy. This is a great trip if you're in the Tampa Bay area and have a DD :)

We were in the St. Petersburg area for the week and came upon a winery street sign on the road. We decided to drop by one early afternoon to see what this is all about. Believe it or not, they produce all kinds of REAL fruit wines on location. They even offer sparking wines. The staff was super friendly and the free winery tour was short and sweet. After the winery tour, the wine tasting included a whopping "10" selections plus 2 tasty frozen smoothies. That was great! Afterward, we purchased two bottles of their award winning best sellers (Key Limen and Midnight Sun) to bring home plus a couple glasses of sparking wine to enjoy by their guest seating area. Overall, if you are an open-minded wine drinker then this is a great place to visit if you are in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area. I strongly recommend it.

If you are into fruit wines, this winery is a definite gem. They make wines from all of the citrus fruit available in Florida, and are the only winery allowed to bear the Florida Citrus Fruit logo, apparently. We tried a few of their wines, including their strawberry cream sherry, the blackberry/blueberry port, and some sweeter wines like the Key Limen (tangy), Florida Sunset Pineapple (sweet, and unusual), and Orange Sunshine [Sweet] (first orange wine I've ever had). The only one that did not quite ring my bell was the 40 Karat (a carrot wine) that, while interesting, was not to my palate. The winery is family-owned, and is (or was) considered a boutique winery because everything was done by hand until recently. They still do much by hand, but they have an automated bottling machine now due to the demand for their premiere Hurricane Class 5, among others. The winery started in 1997 and has now grown to over 60 satellite stores. If you are looking for something to do in St. Pete or Pass-a-Grille, and you like wine, I'd definitely recommend checking out this winery. It is definitely distinctive in the fruit wine category.

Tiny tiny pours (less than one ounce), and some interesting flavors, but I don't think these count as wines. I think they're more like wine coolers. Also, the bottles ran from $18 - $30. Everyone was very friendly though, and the wine smoothie at the end was acceptable.

First time visitor. The flavored wines were NOT where it's at!

A wine made with other fruits? You got me. They do actually make a wine with the muscato grape unlike what the other reviewer said but I think I would only care to try the non traditional wines. It is however a little pricier for what it is - I was expecting it to be in the $13-15 range but heck, maybe it's a novelty item. I personally enjoyed the key lime wine the best. Better with the smoothie mix. I wonder if this is another way of calling these a Sangria or a Cocktail - even though they have their own bottled Sangria.

  • Don R.

Frequent Vineyard/Winery customers should be aware that this winery does not offer discounts for multiple purchases such as 6 bottles or a case and the shipping for 6 bottles at $27.00 is exorbitant compared to $16 per case and 10-15% discounts for multiple bottle purchases at wineries throughout Ohio, Virginia and Michigan. The smoothies are excellent and the fruit wines are very good. Would have given 4 stars except for the pricing and shipping .

I know what you are thinking... winery next to the beach!?! Huh!?! Welp, this isn't your normal winery. This place makes wine out of fruits. Pretty much every fruit. I wanted to visit this place for some time and ironically Living Social was selling a daily deal for a tour, tasting, and complimentary beverage for two. Free wine... I'm there. The shop area reminds me of a cracker barrel gift shop, but with less truckers, old people, and rocking chairs. The shop obviously sold all of their wines, but it was also filled with every knick knack you could imagine. However, I will move on to the wine. Took a short tour of the fermentation room and bottling room. It was pretty awesome seeing the entire processing of making fruit wines from start to finish and it smelled amazing. The woman who showed us around was quite knowledgeable and looked sincerely interested in telling us about the company's history and the wine making process. Best part of the tour was when she showed us there "new" product. It is pretty much a capri-sun packet filled with wine. At that point, I started envisioning where I was going to hide them on my body for the next football game. Such a great idea!! If I was this company's marketing person, this product would go global. The next part of the visit was the tasting. We got to sample 16 of the over 30 different wines. I wish the tasting amount was a little more. However, I was still able to have a good taste. After the tasting, we were able to try a Key Lime Wine Smoothie. Yep, I said it... smoothie. It was soo good I decided to have another and purchased a bottle plus the smoothie mix. Let's just say I enjoyed these smoothies for the rest of the weekend. The wines were slightly more money than a bottle you may buy in the grocery store. However, for all you wanna be wine drinkers that aren't a big fan of grape wines, this is the route to go. The wines are good for everyone. Needless to say, I am picking up a bottle of the sparkling cranberry wine for Thanksgiving. And probably a couple more for the weekend.

I visited this winery after getting in town early for a meeting and wanting to try something different. I have to say, it was worth my time. They have wines made from all sorts of fruit - from strawberries, to blackberries, to mangos - you name it! I took the tour and saw the video. Both were pretty cool. After that you get to sample their wines and smoothies that were mixed with wines. I ended up bring bottles of the key-lime wine and key lime smoothie home along with a cookbook that shows interesting things you can make using their wines. Can't wait to try them out!

Oh this place is alittle slice of heaven! Who could ask for more? Wine tastings and a wine smoothie! Oh yes!!! Please! The tour was interesting and educational. The employees knowledgable and professional. And the wine.... Soooo good.

As a local, we enjoy taking our visitors to the Winery. There is a lot of fun things to look at and everyone loves the wine tasting. We always take a couple of bottle of wine home to enjoy! Great gifts.

This is a very unique winery. Basically, none of the wine here is produced with grapes, but with the multitude of tropical fruits and produce grown in Florida. What is most surprising is that not all of their wine is super sweet. Yes, there is alot of that, but they have made a point in offering dry wines that come from everything from passion fruit to citrus. Their offerings are really unique, my favorite by sheer surprise factor is the tomato jalapeno wine. Yeeeah. That one you really, really, REALLY need to love tomatoes to enjoy. Definitely worth a taste, but do it last. The tastings are free, but limited, and while the guy that helped us was friendly, I think he was more focused on selling than anything else. Prices of the wine are a bit high as well ($17\bottle on average). It's definitely a fun stop though, great for out of towners and even locals that want to try something different.

The wine is ahh-may-zing!!! They are extremely nice and friendly!!!

HA! This place is a joke right? I mean the sign out front says, "finally wine that tastes good" like thousands of years people have been doing it all wrong, and it took some floridians to fix it. Can you really even call fruit wine 'wine', isn't it more of a mead or cider? Anyway, we stopped in and did a tour and a tasting. Nothing... nothing tasted remotely decent, and we all felt kinda sick afterward. I've had wine coolers that were tastier. Maybe this would be good for people who don't like any other type of alcohol, or the people who think those crazy flavors of jelly bellies are good like buttered popcorn (they are probably working on that wine flavor). It took me a while to like real wine, i admit, but do yourself a favor and tack on a real winery to a trip someday. (if you want to be frugal go to amador county, CA they dont charge like napa and sonoma). man... sorry for being mean. umm, they were really nice... well our tour guide may have been on drugs, but she was nice. Maybe the wines would be good to cook with....and you know, support your local businesses and all.

This place does to wine what microbreweries do for beer. These growers offer a fine wine alternative to wines made from grapes. If you have a finely tuned wine palate, you will be amazed by the notes and nuances provided by these wines. They do not have the tannens that cause headaches to those who don't tolerate "grape-based" wines. At $17-20 per bottle, they are not meant for "chugalug" drinkers. My favorite is the wine made from carrots (vaguely similar to a chablis), but I also love the tangelo, grapefruit, and cranberry wines. They also have mixes to make frozen slushies from these light, fresh flavors and some mixes for making dips and cheeseballs. If you like to play with your food and drink, this novel drink alternative place is worthy of a stop.

  • Stephanie K.

This place was described to me as a craft shop that happens to sell wine. And I couldn't agree more. From the beginning, it was different than any other winery I had visited. The wines are not grape-based, they're made out of fruit. As a fan of dry wines, I was a little skeptical about the fruit flavored selections. However, there were several interesting and unique selections that I ended up taking home with me: Tangelo (kind of like Pinot Grigio with a hint of tangerine), Blackberry (similar to Merlot but with a stronger berry flavor), and Festiberry (cranberry wine that will be perfect on Thanksgiving). Other than the wine, the shop itself was a little too craftsy. Don and I could have done without the saleswoman's hardsell on the fake candles and the overpriced jams and jellies. On a similar note, my only other gripe would be related to the price of the wine. I paid between $17-$20 for each bottle I bought, which would be a pretty nice bottle of grape wine.

  • Anne K.

The staff was very attentive, friendly and helpful (even though we arrived just before a very large group). I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the citrus wines they offer, but we tasted several and though some were much too sweet for my tastes, I found some that were so unique and flavorful. I'll definitely be ordering some from their online store when I get home from vaca.
